Fitzhugh Rd.

Traffic Scenery Fun Road Condition Police

Description

Fitzhugh Rd. is one of those roads with many differnet names and it keeps changing as you drive from east to west.  It starts off as Fitzhugh Rd. and changes to Pedernales Falls Rd., Robinson Rd., 2766, etc., but generally it's all known as Fitzhugh. It is best accessed from Hwy 12 and then runs 23 miles to Johnson City.  This is a road we drive A LOT.  It is one of the main backroad arteries that gets us out into the Hill Country.  It is a much better alternative than taking Hwy 290 which parallels it.

There can be traffic on this road sometimes, but then other times it's not so bad.  The scenery is excellent, and the parts near Pedernales State Park are really fun to drive.  There's one hill that you can catch air on if you take it too fast going east from the park!  There is a water crossing to be aware of because if it has been raining there can be 2-5+" of water over it that you have to go through.  It has never been a problem for us, but it's something to be aware of.
