HAMILTON POOL RD.

Traffic Scenery Fun Road Condition Police

Description

Hamilton Pool Rd. is one of our main "Gateways" to the Hill Country because it is only about a mile west of the Hill Country Galleria at 620 & Hwy 71 where most of our drives start.  The traffic on this road is quite bad, at least up to the intersection of Hwy 12.  Shortly after passing Hamilton Pool you'll cross the Pedernales River.  There is a steep hairpin turn here, and once you get to the bridge the scenery is quite beautiful.  At this point Hamilton Pool Rd. becomes RR 962 E.  The Hamilton Pool Vinyards is also a little farther down the road and is a nice spot to visit.

The road is in very good condition, but it is a single-lane road with very few if any passing opportunities.  Luckily, no cattle guards. There are occasionally police driving along.  If you're heading to Dripping Springs or Johnson City this is by far the better way to go rather than taking Hwy 290 from Austin all the way in.  Hamilton Pool Rd. has only 1 stoplight, and it's blinking yellow most of the time.
