TWISTED SISTERS | 335, 336 & 337

Traffic Scenery Fun Road Condition Police

Description

The Twisted Sisters is the name given to the roads, 335, 336 and 337 which make up what is generally deemed the best driving road in Texas.  These roads are twisty, hilly, extremely scenic, and are nice and long.  It is also a somewhat dangerous road, so you'll see signs saying how many motorcyclicsts have been killed so far this year, and there are cops.  Not a ton of cops, but you'll see at least one every time you do this run.  Sometimes they're hiding and sometimes they're on the road, but you need to assume there's one waiting around every corner, so be careful!  The speed limits on these roads is extremely low, so it doesn't take much to be speeding.

Most people will start their drive in Bandera, but we have also done it from Medina or Kerrville.  The drive generally takes 3-4 hours depending on traffic, speed, and stops.  You can choose to do the loop clockwise or counter-clockwise - both directions are excellent, however, you may find less traffic going counter-clockwise.  It is best to do this drive in the off-season because there will be far less traffic.  Passing on these roads is almost impossible most of the time.

This is not an easy road due to all of the things you have to be aware of, but it's totally worth it!  It's the closest you'll get to driving in the Alps in Texas.
