This part of the Roads & Routes Database contains a list of routes that we have driven in recent years.  Each route is marked with gas & pee stops along with any relevant food, POI's, or other scenic stops.

Texas Hill Country Driving Routes

Fredericksburg Loop

  • 195 Miles
  • 4 Hours
  • Stop for lunch at Lady Bird Johnson Park in Fredericksburg.
  • Minimal cattle guards - some on the return leg.
  • Long, but really fun drive!


Smith Ranch West Loop

  • 80 Miles
  • 1 Hour 55 Min
  • Very little traffic
  • A really fun and scenic drive despite the many cattle guards.
  • Short drive with no stops


Canyon of the Eagles

  • 155 Miles
  • 3.5 Hours
  • Departs from North Austin and ends in Bee Caves
  • Drive out to the Canyon of the Eagles Resort for lunch
  • Some areas have lots of cattle guards
  • Beautiful drive that covers a wide area of the local Hill Country


Austin to Boerne

  • 162 Miles
  • 3.7 Hours
  • Departs from Hill Country Galleria
  • Minimal cattle guards
  • Can be some traffic in areas, but usually not bad.
  • Lunch in Boerne


Johnson City / Blanco Loop

  • Excellent route with only 4 cattle guards.
  • Counter-clockwise loop with optional stop @ the Hamilton Pool Vineyards at the end.
  • 134 miles / 3 hours
  • Moderate traffic, but most roads very little.


Twisted Sisters

  • Loop of RR337 335 & 336
  • Starts from Escondida Resort near Kerrville
  • 185 miles / 4 hours
  • Best Scenic & Fun drive in Texas!
  • Dangerous in areas, especially for Motorcycles
  • Watch speed because there are always cops. 


Kerrville Drive

  • A long, 208 mile trip from Bee Caves to Kerrville and back.
  • Lots of really fun roads with almost no repeats on the return leg.
  • Can stop in Kerrville for lunch.



DFW Area Driving Routes

Granbury Loop

  • 150 Miles / 3h 19min.
  • Fun, scenic loop starting in Granbury
  • Stop at the a cheese factory
  • Lunch in Glen Rose


Dallas Salt Palace

  • 183 Miles / 3h 23min.
  • A nice, fun drive out of Dallas, but takes a while just to get out of the city.
  • Fun stop at the Gran Saline Salt Palace
